Home Care
Services
Home care services are designed to provide skilled nursing care to patients who require assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and/or instrumental ADLs (IADLs). These services can include bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, transferring, continence management, medication administration, and other tasks that assist individuals in maintaining their independence. Skilled nursing services may be provided at the patient's residence, at a hospital or clinic, or in a residential facility.
Personal
Care Aides
Personal care aides perform personal care services for individuals who have physical disabilities or chronic illnesses. They may assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, mobility, and other duties. This includes providing companionship and emotional support.
Caregiver
A caregiver is someone who provides personal care for a person with disabilities. This could include bathing, dressing, feeding, medication management, transportation, and other activities that are necessary for daily.
Nursing Staffing Levels
Nursing staffing levels are determined based on the number of hours needed per day to meet the needs of each individual patient. There are three types of nursing staff: Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), and Certified Nurse Aides (CNA). RNs have completed a bachelor's degree program and passed a national certification exam. LPNs have completed a diploma program and passed a state licensing exam. CNA's have completed a certificate program and passed a state certification exam.
Types of Home Care Services
There are two types of home care services: In-home care and Out-of-home care. In-home care includes services provided by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or certified nurse aide while the patient remains at his or her own residence. Out-of-home services include those provided by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse at a hospital or clinic.
